BMW N55 cooling upgrades address several different jobs. An intercooler removes heat from compressed intake air, a charge pipe carries that air, and a main or auxiliary radiator rejects heat from the engine coolant. Choosing the right part starts with the circuit you want to improve and the exact vehicle application.
This guide compares do88 components for the listed F-series N55 BMWs, including M135i, M235i, 335i, 435i and the original F87 M2. Some parts cover several models; others are specific to the M2. Check each product's fitment independently.
Which N55 cooling component does what?
- ICM-280 intercooler: cools compressed intake air before it reaches the engine.
- TR-180S turbo outlet hose: carries hot charge air from the turbo to the intercooler on the original F87 M2.
- TR-190S intercooler outlet charge pipe: carries charge air out of the intercooler on the listed N55 models.
- WC-290 main radiator: cools engine coolant on selected automatic N55 applications.
- WC-280 remote radiator: upgrades the auxiliary engine-coolant radiator on the original F87 M2.
- F87 M2 N55 racing engine oil cooler: addresses engine-oil cooling on its listed M2 application.
Intercooler or charge pipe: choose around the problem
If your concern is charge-air temperature during repeated acceleration or sustained load, the intercooler is the relevant heat exchanger. Check temperature data, airflow and the condition of the existing system before choosing an upgrade.
A damaged hose, leaking connection or failing pipe requires attention to the pipework. A replacement charge pipe does not provide a larger intercooler core, and fitting a larger intercooler does not repair a separate boost leak.
The do88 ICM-280 uses a 15,208 cm³ core compared with 6,831 cm³ for the BMW M2 OE unit in do88's comparison. The manufacturer also lists other F-series applications. Use the full model list, not just the chassis code, and note that an F33 support bracket may need lengthening during installation.
TR-180S versus TR-190S
These part numbers identify different positions in the charge-air path. TR-180S is the turbo-to-intercooler hose for the listed N55 F87 M2. TR-190S is the intercooler-outlet charge pipe for the broader list of supported N55 models.
Identify which side of the intercooler you are replacing, then check the OE reference and any existing aftermarket turbo or pipework. One N55 application does not automatically establish another.
Main radiator or remote radiator?
WC-290 and WC-280 both belong to the engine-coolant system, but they replace different radiators. WC-290 is the main radiator for selected automatic N55 BMWs. WC-280 is the auxiliary radiator for the original F87 M2.
Check coolant temperatures and the condition of the system before deciding which component to replace. Increased radiator capacity is one part of thermal control; airflow, coolant circulation and correct filling and bleeding also matter.
WC-290 fitment conditions that matter
- Transmission: do88's listed applications are automatic. Do not infer manual-car fitment.
- F20 M135i: the manufacturer requires BMW coolant hose 17127648644.
- F30 335i and F32/F36 435i: the listed applications require M Sport equipment.
- Model and production date: check the complete application list on the product page before ordering.
The WC-280 remote radiator has its own F87 M2 N55 application. A WC-290 listing for another N55 model does not make the M2 remote radiator compatible with that car.
Original M2, M2 Competition and B58 models
The original F87 M2 uses the N55. The F87 M2 Competition uses the S55 and has different charge-air hardware. M140i and M240i models use the B58. Match the engine and manufacturer part application rather than selecting by an M badge or a shared F-series chassis.
Before ordering or booking installation
- Confirm the model, chassis, engine, production date and transmission.
- Identify the cooling circuit or pipe position you need to address.
- Check the product's OE references and manufacturer application notes.
- List existing turbo, pipework and cooling modifications for a compatibility check.
- Read the fitting manual and arrange any additional hoses or hardware before the workshop booking.
Common N55 cooling questions
Do I need to replace the intercooler and charge pipe together?
They perform different jobs. The correct combination depends on the condition of your existing parts, your vehicle specification and what you are trying to resolve. Check the fitment and connections of every component rather than treating the linked products as an automatic package.
Will a larger intercooler or radiator guarantee more power?
No. Manufacturer core-volume and flow figures describe particular components and test conditions. Temperature and power outcomes depend on the vehicle, calibration, airflow, ambient conditions and use.
Will every do88 N55 part fit my M135i or M235i?
No. Some products cover several N55 chassis, while the TR-180S hose and WC-280 remote radiator here are listed for the original F87 M2. Use the individual application list.
