An MST intake needs to match more than the badge on the boot. BMW engine codes, VAG intake layouts and the exact MST part number determine which kit belongs on your car. This guide explains how to compare the range and avoid confusing a complete induction kit with a turbo inlet or an accessory.
Start with the MST Performance range, then use the engine and chassis details below to narrow your choice.

Start with the engine and chassis
A BMW M240i can mean an F-Series or G-Series car. Both can have a B58 engine, but that does not make their intake kits interchangeable. The same applies to the M2: the original F87 N55, F87 Competition S55 and G87 S58 need different applications.
| Application | What to compare |
|---|---|
| BMW M140i, M240i, 340i and 440i B58, 2016 onwards | BW-B5801 F-Series B58 intake |
| BMW 540i G30/G31 B58 | BW-G5401 intake |
| BMW M2 Competition, M3 and M4 S55 | BW-M3401 intake and the separate BW-M3402 turbo inlet kit |
| BMW M3 G80 and M4 G82 S58 | BW-S5801 and BW-S5802; compare the exact design |
| BMW G-Series 320i, 330i, 420i and 430i B48 | BW-B4802 intake |
| VW Golf Mk7 GTD and VAG MQB 2.0 TDI | VW-MK704 diesel intake |
These are starting points for the listed applications. Check the individual product notes, model year and existing intake layout before choosing a kit.
Complete intake, turbo inlet or clear cover?
A complete induction kit changes the filter and associated intake arrangement. Depending on the application, it can include pipework, a heat shield or housing, couplers and fitting hardware. Read the component list for the exact kit you are buying.
A turbo inlet changes the pipework feeding the turbocharger. It is a separate component from the filter or airbox. For an S55 build, compare the BW-M3401 induction kit with the BW-M3402 turbo inlet kit and check the intended connections before combining them.
A clear cover is an accessory. The MST M340i clear cover is listed for the compatible BW-B5802 intake. It does not turn a standard airbox into an MST system, and the vehicle name alone does not establish cover compatibility.
How to compare the two MST S58 listings
BW-S5801 and BW-S5802 are distinct part numbers. Do not choose between them purely from a price or a generic M3/M4 description. Confirm the intake design, supplied revision and intended application. MST UK also lists BW-S5802 for the G87 M2; ask us to check your car before ordering.
MST publishes a BW-S5802 installation manual. Compare the instructions with the engine bay and the version being supplied.
VAG: check the engine generation and sensor layout
TSI, TFSI and TDI describe different applications. A diesel MQB kit should not be selected for a petrol GTI or R. Within petrol applications, check the EA888 generation, sensor arrangement, turbo connection and any right-hand-drive restriction.
The Golf R Mk8 EA888 EVO intake is listed for right-hand-drive applications. The Golf Mk7 GTD/MQB 2.0 TDI kit is a separate diesel product. Similar model names do not make those parts substitutes.
Sound, airflow and expectations
Changing an intake can make induction and turbo sounds more noticeable. It also changes the air path and the way the filter is separated from engine-bay heat. The outcome depends on the particular system and vehicle.
Do not choose a kit from a headline horsepower number alone. A result from one test car does not establish the result on another engine, calibration or supporting setup. Compare the fitment, supplied components and maintenance needs first.
Questions to answer before ordering
- What are the engine code, chassis and build year?
- Does the car have its original turbo and airbox?
- Is there a MAF sensor or other sensor connection to accommodate?
- Does the listing restrict steering side or engine revision?
- Are you buying the complete kit, inlet pipework or an accessory?
If any answer is unclear, send Nineteen72 Performance your registration or VIN, the MST part number and a photo of the current intake. That gives us a useful basis for checking the application.
MST intake FAQs
Will an F-Series B58 kit fit a G-Series B58?
Do not assume it will. Use the exact chassis and kit application, even when the engine family is the same.
Does an induction kit always include turbo inlets?
No. Check the component list. Separate turbo inlet products are available for some applications.
How do I look after the filter?
Use the instructions for the supplied filter and intake revision. Inspect it as part of routine maintenance and after dusty use; do not apply a treatment intended for a different filter medium.
