KW offers several suspension ranges that can look similar in product photos but provide very different levels of adjustment. Choosing correctly starts with one question: do you need to adjust ride height only, fine-tune road behaviour, or develop a repeatable track setup?
This guide explains the practical differences between KW V1, V2, V3, Clubsport and H.A.S., plus the electronic-damper and drivetrain checks that matter on modern BMW and Porsche applications.
KW V1: height adjustment with factory-set damping
KW V1 is a complete coilover system with height adjustment and a damper setup developed for the vehicle application. The damping is not externally adjustable by the driver. It suits customers who want a matched coilover package without needing to tune damping settings.
KW V2: adjustable rebound
KW V2 adds rebound adjustment. Rebound influences how the damper controls the wheel and body as the suspension extends after compression. This gives the installer or driver more scope to tune response and ride behaviour than a fixed-damping V1.
KW V3: independent rebound and compression adjustment
KW V3 adds separate adjustment of rebound and compression damping. That makes it a useful option for experienced road and track drivers who want more control over chassis response without moving straight to a motorsport-focused system.
The benefit only appears when changes are made methodically. Record settings, change one variable at a time and evaluate the car on the same tyre pressures and alignment where possible.
KW Clubsport: track-focused suspension
KW Clubsport is designed for more circuit-focused use, with application-specific damping, adjustment and hardware. Depending on the exact kit, adjustable top mounts and other track-oriented features may be included.
Do not assume every Clubsport kit has identical adjustment or hardware. A BMW M-car kit and a Porsche GT3 application can have different requirements.
What is KW H.A.S.?
KW H.A.S. means Height Adjustable Spring. Rather than replacing the complete damper assembly, a compatible H.A.S. kit provides adjustable spring perches and springs while retaining the relevant original dampers.
That makes H.A.S. particularly interesting on cars where the owner wants adjustable ride height while keeping compatible factory electronic dampers. It is not the same as a full coilover conversion.
KW EDC cancellation and DDC
Modern BMWs can be supplied with electronically controlled dampers. A passive KW coilover installation can require the original damper-control system to be addressed, commonly through the relevant cancellation solution. That prevents the car expecting electronic adjustment from dampers that no longer provide it.
A cancellation kit does not make passive dampers electronically adjustable. KW DDC systems are a different product family. Check the exact car and kit before ordering.
RWD vs xDrive KW fitment
Do not assume a KW kit listed for a rear-wheel-drive BMW also fits xDrive. Drivetrain hardware, axle loads and suspension packaging can change the application. The same applies to saloon, Touring and other body styles.

KW suspension FAQs
Is KW V3 better than V1?
It offers more adjustment, but more adjustment is only an advantage if you need and use it. A properly selected V1 can be the better solution for a driver who wants a fixed, matched road setup.
Is KW H.A.S. a coilover?
It is a height-adjustable spring system, not the same hardware architecture as a complete coilover kit. Check the individual product because online terminology often uses “coilover spring kit” loosely.
Do KW coilovers need an alignment?
Yes. Set the final ride height, verify clearances and suspension travel, then have the geometry measured and adjusted for the intended use.
Which KW kit is best for track days?
That depends on how serious the circuit use is and how much setup work the driver will undertake. V3 can offer useful adjustment for mixed road and track use, while Clubsport is the more track-focused family. Tyres, geometry and driver goals matter as much as the damper name.
